Get Published- Volume Five

Hey Y'all!!!

Happy Saturday and hope all is well. Tenia here from Jazzy Paper Designs giving y'all the 411 on how to get published!! This post is a little special today because I want to tell y'all why I submit and hope to get y'all encouraged to do the same.

Why I submit to Publication Calls.....(In no particular order)

1. It is FUN!!! No stress here....just all in FUN!! Notice how I stress the word FUN. It is suppose to be FUN and if it is not fun....no bueno....true story.

2. I love to submit to ALL types of magazines. In some magazines if they don't use my creations they sent it to charities so I feel good.....no matter what! :)

3. I love being challenged. Some of the magazine calls these days are cray cray challenging but I believe that makes you a better artist. You start thinking "Outside the Box" and stuff.... and that's a great thing!

4. I LURVE to submit using the newest and greatest product (Sweet Stamp Shop....of course)!! These days magazines stress that you use the newest and greatest products and Sweet Stamp Shop has the COOLEST and most UNIQUE stamps around for that!! You know if you want to submit using Sweet Stamp Shop stamps here are a few that I think that would totally shine in magazines:
There is NOTHING like this stamp set on the market. Magazines LURVE new, fun(punny sentiments!!) and innovative stamps and this one for sure would totally ROCK in magazines!!

Shapes of all kinds are the rage right now and this set would look AWESOME in ANY of the leading crafty magazines!!!

5. Meeting new crafty friends(IRL too) and getting to see their AWESOME work in magazines!! That is just RAD!! That is all......nuff said!!

6. There is nothing like seeing your work in a magazine!! I still feel like it is the "first time" being published and I just have a sense of pride and it just makes me feel happy and proud.

7. There is NOTHING to lose!! If I submit to a certain call and it doesn't "fit" for the magazine at that time....no worries!!! I use my creations for another magazine calls or I will have cards for my "stash" to give to family or friends!!

8. I am the type of person that LURVES to take risks!! I AM the Nike slogan (Just Do It!)......I have been told.....hee hee!! Y'all just gotta submit.....Just DO It!! I sooooooo stressed DO because you need to just "DO"!!

Speaking of "Sweet" Getting Published.........check this OUT (Yayness for Jennifer....Woot Woot!!)!!

If y'all have some Sweet Stamp Shop cards or projects that y'all created with there are some magazine out there that will publish your "already blogged projects".....so submit them.....you have NOTHING to lose!!! Speaking of submitting to publications........

Yep, we've got a publication incentive just for you!

It's super simple - If our stamps are used in a craft project that is published (in a physical magazine - sorry, no online magazine incentives at this time), and the name of the stamp as well as 'Sweet Stamp Shop' is mentioned - you'll get...

Try your hand at submitting - you never know what the magazines might be looking for... everything from simple to super intricate - there is room for all styles and levels!
Maybe you've even made a card recently that you think would be AWESOME in a magazine - be sure to check and see which printed magazines let you submit already posted projects - some do!
We are really 'in love' with this card we made...
Ohhh... swoon - isn't nice when you still LOVE a card you made a while back... lol - so take a moment and see if there is anything in your stash that could have another 'life' in the pages of a magazine! You'll surprise yourself I'm sure!
We used our favorite 'Admit One' stamp set for this one.

Get Published- Volume Two

Hey Y'all!!!

Happy Saturday and hope all is well. It's Tenia here from Jazzy Paper Designs and I am here to give y'all the 411 on magazine publications and how to get published in your favorite magazines!!! If y'all missed the first volume of "Get Published" please do check it out here. Today I will give y'all info on the ever so popular CardMaker magazine!!

CardMaker magazine is a bi-monthy magazine that is published in January, March, May, July, September and November!! What is very cool about this magazine is that it appeals to all different levels!! Whether you are just starting off or a seasoned pro.....this magazine is just for you!!! So y'all want to give it a shot in getting published in this totally RAD magazine?? Here are the deets!!!

Do you remember from the last "Get Published" post that I mentioned on how Stampington and Co. and Scott Publications magazines have Editorial Calendars posted on their site? Well with CardMaker magazine you will have to e-mail the editor, Tanya Fox to get the most recent calendar. If you are interested in the most recent Editorial Calendar here is the e-mail: Submissions@CardMakerMagazine.com. The editor at CardMaker magazine is very good in getting back with you with the Editorial Calendar so that you can start creating....Woot Woot!!!

So I received the Editorial Calendar.....now what!?  Well after getting the calendar I sure hope that y'all would be creating something....lol!!! After your creations are done you will need to follow the Designer Guidelines that are posted on the CardMaker site. There is a form that you must copy and paste and add as an attachment and sent it to Submissions@CardMakerMagazine.com. For the rest of the Designer Guidelines please go here. After you followed the guidelines and e-mailed your projects to CardMaker magazine.....you just wait for that "Happy E-mail". If you didn't get a "Happy E-mail" no worries.....just try, try, try again!!! If you did.......AWESOMESAUCE!!! This magazine does pay you for your projects so you will have to fill out a W-9 (or W-8 if you are not from the United States). The pay depends on the project that you created. I know with some other magazines that  paper crafting projects like gift bags or home décor will get you more money......just sayin....lol!!!

Get Published- Volume One

Happy Saturday Sweet Friends!

Nicole here, checking in - How much did you love the release?! We had so much fun showing off the new stamp sets - and we just can't wait to see what you talented ladies will make with the new images! (please share!)

Today we're introducing a new series by Tenia Nelson, Getting Published!

Getting Published?! What's that, you might ask....

Well, if you've ever checked out a print magazine (or maybe even an online one) full of crafty goodness - odds are that you've seen lots of contributing artists JUST LIKE YOU!

Basically, people share with the magazines cards and other various crafty projects they've made - and in return they get to see their work in print!

You might think to yourself - ok, that's cool - but, I don't know if that's enough incentive for me to take time to send in my creations to a magazine....

I'd say - WAIT - there's more!

Different Magazines offer product, $$, and even long term designing in exchange for your creations! Not to mention, most manufactures offer 'publication incentives' -- so, if your creation gets picked up by a magazine and you've used a specific brand of ribbon (you mention that you did) - often times (like 89% of the time) that company will send you $$ or product or feature you on their marketing.... etc!

From the average hobby crafter - all the way to the 'Martha' hopefuls .... there is a ton of reasons to try your hand at getting published .....

SO, without gabbin' on any more - here is Tenia with her first 'Getting Published' post....

Hey Y’all!!!
Happy Saturday and hope all is well!! It’s Tenia from Jazzy Paper Designs and every other Saturday for three months I will be giving y’all the 411 on getting published!!!

One of the big things on getting published is…..well……DO IT!!! You never know if you do not try!!! It took me TWO years before I got anything published in ANY magazine. I kept on being persistent and then one day……BOOM!! Keep on submitting even though your projects do not get chosen the first time. As Dory from Finding Nemo would say “Keep on Swimming!”  Today I will spotlight on a few magazines that y’all could get published in.......CHECK IT!!!
The first Magazine that will be focused on is Stampington and Co. Take Ten Magazine. What is very cool about this magazine is that you could submit your projects all year round. You do have to mail in your submissions to this magazine and when your projects get selected you get a magazine sent to your home. Even though you do not get paid for this magazine the cards that do not get published in the magazine goes to charities and you get a copy of the magazine that you are published in….how cool is that?! There is a special form to type in your information to send in with your cards. Check it out here. Here are the rest of the Stampington and Co. submission calls that are going on right now.

The last magazines that will be focused on today is Scott Publications Just Cards! Magazine and Scrap and Stamp Arts. There is a editorial calendar for Just Cards! that  you can check out here and a editorial calendar for Scrap and Stamp Arts here. With the Scott Publications magazines you will have to type your info and materials list and send in the mail with your creations. As with the Stampington and Co. magazine you do not get paid and if your projects are chosen then you will receive your free magazine. What is so nice about these two magazine companies(Stampington and Co. and Scott Publications) is that you have ALL levels of card makers(beginning to advanced) that are represented……which is pretty RAD!!

One of my cards that I created using Sweet Stamp Shop stamps was in the Just Cards! Vol. 27 magazine!! This is the card…..CHECK IT!!
I used the Sweet Stamp Shop stamp set Spectacle:
