Sweet Scrappin' - I love to go a-wandering

Hello Sweet Scrappers! Today I've got a layout where I did a lot of stamping directly onto my background paper. That can be a little scary to do, right? I only had one sheet of this pretty Amy Tangerine 'Sketchbook' paper, so I was careful in my planning and stamping. Let me show you how it came together.

Here's my layout:

Before I stamped on the background, I actually stamped on some scrap paper and cut out the pieces. I chose inks that coordinated with the colors already in the patterned paper. This was my rough plan before stamping with Calendar and Distressed Chevron:

Now I was confident in what I was doing so I went ahead and stamped! I added some text and arrow stamps using black ink and ended up with a page like this:
My black on blue stamping in the corner of the photo got a little lost. I fixed that by layering a few strips of paper under the photo, and just covered that stamping right up! The paper strips helped to ground my photo anyways, so it wasn't just 'floating' on the page.

Next, I thought the stamped calendar was a little out of proportion with the rest of the page. My eye was drawn to the calendar instead of the photo. So I just layered some embellishments over it. You can still see that it's a calendar, but it doesn't stand out as much.

Then some text stickers and arrows down the side, to direct your eye to the photo:

Then to balance the layout, I embellished the upper right corner of the photo. Notice that I restamped the little View Finder banner (that I previously covered up) onto yellow paper and cut it out.

Here's the completed layout again:

To sum up some of my tips for stamping on your scrapbook page background:
  1. Plan out your stamping. Stamp on scrap paper and cut out the pieces to better visualize on your layout.
  2. Cover up stamping mistakes with embellishments or patterned paper.
  3. Give it a try and have fun!!
