"Not all of us can do great things.
But we can do small things with great love."
-- Mother Teresa
Hello and Welcome to the
'head quarters' of
Operation Julie's Smile
Let me take a moment to introduce
myself and *why* I started OJS.
My name is Nicole Rixon and I am
the owner and designer of Sweet Stamp Shop.
Julie and I have become fast friends... and
although we live thousands of miles away
and we've never had the chance to meet face to face...
it's no secret, Julie is one amazing person.
Often times (actually, most of the time) we're
so caught up in our day-to-day lives we don't take
a moment to see all the suffering around us.
I don't know about you, but I can't hardly watch those
commercials featuring starving children... I just feel
so helpless... I mean, really what could *I* possibly do?
Then I'm reminded that God has an
amazing way of presenting each of us
with moments that help create our purpose.
A purpose much deeper than a job,
a business, material items... our *real* purpose.
I'm reminded that...
I can't be everything to everyone...
BUT, I can be something to someone.
Julie is amazing lady with an incredible heart...
All we're doing is insuring that she has a
smile befitting here charismatic personality!
Here is Julie's situation ina bit more detail...
if you hadn't heard..
The creative blogging community is coming together this weekend to help one of our friends, Julie Ranae. You may know her as the Design Team Coordinator for many wonderful companies from bakers twine, die cuts, rubber stamps and more. What many people don’t know about Julie Ranae is that she has had some pretty major dental surgeries in her lifetime due to medication she had to take as a child. It was in her plans to think about having all of her teeth replaced at some point in the next 5 years, a decision that was pretty easy to plan out. But then it happened…she chipped her front teeth on a weekend a month ago. The dentist told her there was no way to save them & that it was his recommendation that she give in and have them all her teeth removed soon, but for that day, they needed to get her front teeth done so her gums could begin to heal. He said he would 'work out payments with her to have ALL this work done...but when she called to make her appt for the first step of impressions, they told her the amount of money that was needed and that the 'payments' applied only to the two teeth that were extracted that day. Her husband Paul was with her & that too, was his understanding as well. So this is how she has found herself in this situation…Needing at least $4000 to get started and another $3000 to finish the process…a total of $7000.
Because she is an event organizer by trade, she has taken on the job of organizing all of the blogs in this hop as her way of ‘working overtime’ for what she needs, the same as if she were able to work overtime at an outside job to pay for the work to be done.
It is the goal of all of these generous friends & sponsors to help make this situation more do-able for our friend so that she can share a brand new smile with all of us soon.
I want to take a moment and thank ALL the participants
and donors.... without you, my grand plan would never
have lifted off the ground. You all are the true grass roots
of OJS and a reminder that people are *good* and charitable.
Thank you!
I would be so grateful if you (the hoppers)
took a moment to thank our donors as well...
I know that it's a *long* list
but if each of you picked two or three to
thank... we'd get through the whole list.. together!
Prize Donors
(in no particular order)
Lori Kistler
Now is the exciting part... the part where you
start your journey through all the amazing blog
who gave time and blog space for Julie to inspire
you... and encourage you to donate what you
can to this worthy cause. If you'd like to donate
before you start the hop... the donate button is
in the upper right hand corner of this blog. But,
you'll be seeing it along the way too!
I am beyond proud and thankful to tell you
that we have nearly $2,500.00 worth of
prizes to give out... which adds up to well
*over* 85 different prizes.
Wanna enter for some of these goodies?!?
(brought to you buy the amazing donors above)
There are 2 ways...
1. Complete the entire hop ... yep, all 120+ blogs
and comment along the way...
or... far easier...
2. Donate what you can to OJS using our donate button
and you're entered!
If you're sweatin' already thinking of ALL the blogs
you have to get to... no worries! You have all weekend to
hop and donate!
Here is the complete list of blogs...
SIDE NOTE: We want to let you know that b/c this
is such a *big* hop there are bound to be
breaks in the hopping chain. So, we suggest
bookmarking this blog so if you get lost you can

Hey Nicole, just wanted to stop by and say how wonderful that you kicked this whole thing off. I'm happy that I had a chance to meet you through this, so I could catch a glimpse of your heart :) I have enjoyed being a part of this whirlwind adventure too (and I'm glad my flowers arrived over there in plenty of time!!) Fiona (madebyfee)
ReplyDeleteNicole, what you've done here is amazing! I hope if I'm ever in need, someone like you is around- fantastic! I was feeling bad about some dental issues I'm having right now but this makes me so thankful that I'm only dealing with what I am. I'd love to do the full hop but I sincerely doubt I'll be able to. I've made a small donation and hope that it helps get to the end goal. Happy hopping all and WONDERFUL to everyone who's put time into this!
ReplyDeleteI am SO seriously excited for this blog hop!! It's so thoughtful that all of these great pages are in collaboration to help one of their own. Thanks for this opportunity...
ReplyDeleteAmazing...you are so wonderful for organizing this for someone who is loved by so many. Don't know if I can visit all 120 blogs, but going to try. I will also be making a donation. It won't be a lot, but I wanted to help in some way. Good luck.
ReplyDeletewow i got a lot of commenting to do but looks like a lot of fun. Hope everything works out for julie and her dental needs.
ReplyDeleteNicole, what a wonderful and caring person you are to organize this event for Julie.
ReplyDeleteIts fantastic to see so many people donating prizes and their time.
I am so glad to be able to donate to help Julie. There is a distinct possibility no one else responding can sympathize as much as I.I had an partial upper plate. One day when brushing my gums started to bleed.By noon I had no upper teeth, they had abscessed so badly they had to be pulled.I went 4 months with no upper teeth while my gums and jaw healed.
ReplyDeleteNow for some humour-I got a"black market" plate (I live in swampy so GA) and they it never fit well.I had a bad habit of taking it out at night when I was on the computer. One night I heard my dog chomping on something.Sure enough she was eating my upper plate!Luckily by than dh had a good job and dental insurance. It took 2 mos this time but I got decent teeth.
So indeed I definitely feel Julie's pain.I can tell her it will pass and hopefully very soon she will have her gorgeous smile back.
WOW! I made it through all of them! I tried to comment on them all but I'm not sure they all worked! Hope you reach your goals!
ReplyDeleteThank you sooooo much for helping my mom!!! You ladies are the greatest :-)

Wow, I'm so sorry to hear about Julie's dental issues. Sounds like she should go to a different dentist and not reward his shady practice by paying him the 7k. Maybe there is a crafty dentist who would donate her services and collect the prizes?! Good luck Julie!
